Web Detective

Web Detective was an interesting activity. I found it extremely informative and useful. The information and the "cases" were well-researched. I would use this activity with my students to teach them how to authenticate information from the internet. For any scholarly work, the internet source must be reputable and if you know the clues to find the truth, the internet can be a valuable resource. Students also need to learn that the internet is not the only option for research. Libraries are still a good place to start your search for information. The other thing that students need to learn is what constitutes plagiarism. It is vital to learn that you cannot copy and paste from websites. Everyone needs to know how to cite sources appropriately to give credit to those who did the original work. I would highly recommend reviewing the part about citations before writing any major paper.

  1. Karen, do be aware the tutorial is a bit much for most high school students who don't have the attention span for the whole thing. Parts of it though would make an excellent tutorial for them.
